Amanda GRIGGS

Founder of Root River Yoga

While commencing addiction treatment and recovery in 2008, my practice deepened into the community. I began sharing my healing process and yoga practice with friends and family from my rural home and that same year my journey as a yoga instructor was set in motion. Now I am a certified Iyengar instructor and until 2024 was the owner/operator of this traveling community yoga studio we call Root River Yoga.  I draw from a vast array of training and experiences to help others transform their lives.

Yoga lets us pay attention to each moment from the smallest details of life, such as breathing and eating, to larger goals, such as your career, your personal relationships, and your health. Living mindfully is living your life in each moment with intention, meaning, value, authenticity, gratitude, and positive action. That is what I am able to do in my yoga journey and this is my offering to you.

In my own teaching I strive to balance accessibility with challenge, and to create an environment conducive to growth, both as yogis and as individuals. You can expect an emphasis on taking care of shoulders, wrists, neck, and developing core strength. . As I get to know you as a class and learn more about you, I'll be creating specific classes to cater to your needs and your personal goals for your practice.

I look forward to seeing you on the mat!

I still remember the happiness I felt after my first ever Iyengar yoga class years ago, and I knew that I had found something I would do for years to come. I earned my certification in Iyengar yoga in 2021 and teach classes following this method. I took over the reins of Root River Yoga in January of 2024.  I believe yoga can be enjoyed by everyone. Iyengar yoga can be both lively and sustainable into old age, both good for the body and the mind. We will work on alignment and motion, and I hope that as we learn together, we can create some of that joy I still feel when I practice yoga.

I have taken many different styles of yoga classes and absorb what I feel is important to me from each one. My teaching style is similar, finding a variety of techniques to express a theme or goal. Starting with breath and body awareness, finding strength, alignment and ease within, and always staying positive!

I found yoga in 2016 when I hit my bottom professionally. The practice allowed me to stay safe on the mat and helped me process my thoughts, feelings (obvious and unexpected), and actions. I stepped away from my professional Reading Specialist position and stepped into a yoga teacher training course and never looked back. Since, I have developed my practice to be FULL of feeling, spirit, movement, stillness, thought, exploration, and calm. I allow my students to bring their own world to the mat. While I practice all sorts of different forms of yoga, power to restorative, I am always called back to the beautiful discomfort of YIN yoga and the energizing release of Power yoga. As a yoga guide I will bring both the yin and yang to your practice and give you time to ruminate your movements, your stillness, your changes, and the beauty that your body brings to you everyday.
